About
I’m Janet,
your Driver Trained Occupational Therapist
As an Occupational Therapist with 21 years’ experience, I’ve had the privilege of working with many different people to help them maintain or gain their independence. The ability to drive safely is a major key to the independence and freedom we often take for granted.
Shifting Gears is not just a business, but a passion to walk alongside people as they navigate life after a stroke or as they get older. Living with limitations is never easy and it gives me great joy when I can work with people on the road to safe driving and independence.
OT Driving Assessments
It can be daunting when you’re told you need to get an OT Driver Assessment because you have a medical condition that can affect safe driving or you’re older and your driving needs to be evaluated. Let’s face it, no one likes to have their driving ability questioned because we tend to take it personally.
Driving can be a sensitive issue and for that reason I’ll take the time to listen to you and answer any questions you may have. It’s important for you to understand why you need a driving assessment and what you can expect during an assessment.
Experience and Qualifications
It’s important to choose a qualified occupational therapist who understands the ins and outs of an OT Driving Assessment. As an Occupational Therapist with 21 years’ experience, I completed my PhD with the focus on returning to driving after a stroke.
My research has been published in:
- British Journal of Occupational Therapy
- Australian Occupational Therapy Journal
- Occupational Therapy in Health Care
- Topics in Stroke Rehabilitation
I’m not an NDIS registered provider, but I do work with self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants.
